for Mom

I got this idea from something I saw at Target and decided to make it as a gift for my Mom and Mother-in-law for Mother's Day. They came out so great I think I will also make one for myself!!
It is a series of picture frames hanging vertically from ribbon. At first I was going to figure out how to make it entirely out of scrapbook paper, but then I found these wooden frames at Michael's for $1 each and decided I could easily cover them with paper to customize them and save myself some trouble.

You will need:
ribbon, prints of your favorite pictures, scrapbook paper, scissors, glue, and however many picture frames you want to be all hanging in a row. I chose to do four because I had four pictures I wanted to include. Horizontally oriented pictures work best for this project.

First, trace and cut out the paper to cover each frame and glue it on, taking care not to let the glue ripple the paper. Easy enough, right?

Next, insert the pictures. I kept the cardboard that came with the frame to back my pictures with and make them more sturdy. Then, using a hot glue gun, attach the ribbon to the back of the frames, allowing for some ribbon to show between each frame, and make a loop for hanging at the top. You can also leave some ribbon hanging down at the bottom and cut the ends to make it look nice (I didn't have enough ribbon for that).

You may want to trim the ribbon where the picture is so it's easy to change the pictures in the frames. If you don't, make sure you glue the ribbon at the bottom and top of each frame so they hang straight. You also may decide it's best to actually measure the distance between each frame, blah, blah, blah...I eye-balled it :)

The total cost to make two of these with four frames each was only $16 including printing the photos!

They are so easy (I made them while my boys were napping) and you can be so creative with them! If you have kids, you can let them paint the frames to look really home-made and cute. Another idea is to use decorative or colored ribbon. I even found cork paper that I may end up using on the ones for my house.

By the way, I enabled an e-mail feature so if you particularly like a post, you can click the mail button and send it to a friend!
