Okay, I'm new to cloth diapering, so I'll explain what I know. The top image is a diaper shell. It is good for multiple diaper changes because it has a snap in "insert" (second image) that you just change out when it gets dirty. Sounds simple enough, right? I think the hardest thing about cloth-diapering is going to be the laundry. Cloth diapers require special laundry detergent that is only available at Sprouts (not too bad). They also need to air-dry, meaning I have to figure out a way to hang up a clothesline in my backyard. I'm just using these on the baby, not the toddler as he hopefully won't be in diapers much longer and I didn't want to spend the extra money. These ain't cheap! I got 9 diaper shells and I'm hoping that'll be enough to get by on doing laundry every other day. i did the math and, while we buy the cheapest diapers available, we should end up saving around $400 over the next 2 years. I'm not really an environmentalist but since becoming interested in cloth diapering I've been noticing how much trash my youngsters generate! I will keep you posted on how it goes...pray for me!!
We love our cloth, you will also be amazed at how many less blowouts you have!! There is a bit of a learning curve, I only wash mine with Country Save- probably the one you got at Sprouts, that is where I bought it. We are not even 1/2 way through the box and I use it on other laundry sometimes. I use a 1/4 of a scoop. Oh and we do a hot rinse then hot wash, this is not what they suggest but it works better on stink issues. Let me know if you have any questions :)
ReplyDeleteIf you have any questions about cd you can ask me too! I have been cding for the last year and I love it. As far as laundry goes I use Country Save but I also have discovered Crunchy Clean aNd I love all the yummy smells that they have. Good luck!
